Historical Brass Instruments / Natural Trumpets
In my workshop I make copies of historic trumpets using traditional brass instument making techniques. The concept of transforming the raw material, sheet brass into an instrument, that through the centuries has fascinated both musicians and those who appreciate fine hand craftsmanship, is the main motivation for my work.

One of the high points of my work recently has been the "Birckholtz Trumpet Project". Click here to get to the full story of the Birckholtz Natural Trumpet
International Trumpet Making Workshop
At the International Trumpet Making Workshop, under the supervision of Dr. Robert Barclay, assisted by instrumentmakers Richard Seraphinoff (USA) and Michael Münkwitz (D), participants make a natural trumpet using 17th and 18th century tools, materials, and working methods. Each participant makes their own trumpet after an original by Nürnberg maker Hans Hainlein, (1632).
The workshops take place in the Handwerkskammer, Rostock. |
